Teaching

Gemma has taught violin at Junior Academy for over ten years and also has a thriving private teaching practice. Her students have won places at the major UK conservatoires, been accepted into the National Youth Orchestra and National Children’s Orchestra, won prizes in music festivals and consistently achieved high marks in ABRSM exams.

Gemma’s approach to teaching is one that is very much tailored towards each individual. She believes in solving technical problems in order to make playing the violin as easy as possible, but first and foremost in developing the student’s musicality and enjoyment of playing. She encourages students to learn how to practise efficiently and to think for themselves, developing their own sense of musical style. She provides regular opportunities for performance, with a concert for private students at the end of each term.
